Seabourn Odyssey Delays Special Preview Sailing in Venice
Published on: June 23, 2009
Seabourn Odyssey made its debut in Venice yesterday at what was supposed to be a two-night preview cruise for media and travel agents. Unfortunately, the ship was unable to depart on the cruise because work is still being completed on the vessel. Micky Arison, chairman of Seabourn parent Carnival Corp., said 98 percent of all work had been done on the ship, but some systems still needed to be completed. On Monday evening, Seabourn executives said Odyssey would sail on a brief cruise down the Grand Canal on Tuesday morning and then would put out to sea for an evening cruise the same day. The ship is scheduled to be christened on Wednesday before departing on its first revenue cruise. Seabourn executives vowed that sailing would go on as scheduled. The ship, which is nearly twice as big as other ships in the Seabourn fleet, offers larger staterooms and suites, an expansive new spa, three restaurants, and a unique Seabourn Square lounge area combining a library, Internet cafe, coffee bar and concierge service.
