Aqua Expeditions Reports Capture of Amazon River Bandits
Published on: July 30, 2009
Aqua Expeditions CEO Francesco Galli-Zugaro said Peruvian news agencies are reporting the capture of six armed bandits who robbed passengers on its river vessel July 26 on the Amazon in Peru. “We salute the authorities for their speedy police work,” Galli-Zugaro said. “Sunday’s incident on the Aqua was extremely unfortunate.” However, he said all passengers and crew involved in the incident are well and unharmed and all have since continued on their planned trips within Peru. The 24-passenger Aqua riverboat is currently cruising the Amazon with a full passenger count. Galli-Zugaro also said a variety of measures have been implemented to help prevent future random incidents, including the “discreet stationing” of security personnel on board. “We must stress that this was an isolated and random act and is completely uncommon in the area,” Galli-Zugaro said. “We are hopeful that the speedy apprehension of those responsible will draw this episode to a close.” For more information, visit www.aquaexpeditions.com.
