FareCompare Reports Rollback in Latest Air Fare Increase
Published on: October 27, 2009
Last week’s domestic U.S. airfare hike attempt of $10 roundtrip has become the fifth successful increase of 2009, all since June. On Saturday night, American airlines partially rolled back the hike on routes that mainly overlapped with low-cost airlines which did not participate in the increase, and on Sunday evening the rest of the legacy airlines matched the partial rollback. The scope of the rollback was about 28 percent of the originally increased city pairs. An example of the convergence of the average cheapest prices from New York to the top 50 cities in the U.S. for 2008 versus 2009 can be found at www.farecompare.com/citygraphs/NYC.html .
