Alila Hotels & Resorts, the boutique resort company with properties in Bali and India, will launch a luxury wooden Phinisi boat in Indonesia on Dec. 15. The announcement was made this week at the ILTM Americas luxury travel conference at the Mayakoba resort complex on the Riviera Maya. The vessel, to be named Alila Purnama, will take guests on voyages of discovery throughout the islands of Indonesia.

Alila Purnama, which translates to the Full Moon, is being positioned as the most luxurious live-aboard Phinisi boat in the region, providing modern comfort and accommodations for up to 10 guests and a crew of 16. The inaugural sailing will be on Dec. 15 from Raja Ampat in Indoensia’s West Papua province. Guests will arrive by plane from Bali to Sorong for a six-day escape, with all booking and transfers taken care of by Alila.

Alila Purnama will cruise past several of the Raja Ampat islands, including Gam, Miskon, and Yangello, with guests able to dive by day or night in the coral reefs with diverse marine life, including wobbegong sharks, manta and eagle rays, as well as barracudas

The three-deck, 46-meter-long boat has been built by hand in the traditional style of a Phinisi, as used by the Bugis seafarers from south Sulawesi in Indonesia. In keeping with Alila’s emphasis on style and sustainability, the furniture throughout the boat is custom-made using teak, rattan and other locally sourced materials.

Onboard are four cabins, all air-conditioned with queen-size beds, en-suite bathrooms with showers, writing desk, separate toilet and double wardrobes. In addition there is a Master Suite, designed with large, wraparound windows offering 270-degree views. Its bathroom features a shower, bathtub, two washbasins and an enclosed separate toilet, while a private balcony and large sundeck with daybed and deckchairs.

In addition to the cabins, Alila Purnama features a library, lounge, bar, indoor dining area seating up to 12 people, and plenty of space outside to enjoy the views. The boat also is equipped with complimentary Wi-FI access enabling guests to upload their trip photos on a daily basis.

Guests will be able to dine in the air-conditioned dining room or on the outdoor deck. Meals and an extensive list of non-alcoholic beverages are all-inclusive while alcoholic beverages, including wines, beers and cocktails, are available for an additional charge. After dinner or in between dives, guests can relax over coffee or cocktails in the bar and lounge.

The main outdoor deck has large daybeds shaded by umbrellas. With a spa therapist aboard the vessel, guests can get a signature Alila massage onboard or on a nearby beach.

Alila Purnama also has its own fully licensed PADI dive center for qualified divers. Development courses offered onboard range from Advanced Open Water Diver to over 16 specialties, including Enriched Air Nitrox, Deep, Peak Performance Buoyancy, Drift and Underwater Naturalist. There is equipment for all guests onboard as well as a dedicated freshwater rinse tank for camera equipment. Guests also can combine their stay on Alila Purnama with a stay at Alila Villas Uluwatu or Alila Villas Soori on nearby Bali.
