PHOTO: It's hard to beat the Glockenhof's central location.
The Glockenhof Zurich, a four-star hotel in the city of the same name, is by all accounts visually appealing, friendly, well managed and comfortable. But its most important feature is its location, which is, from the standpoint of exploring Zurich, perfect.
The hotel is 20 minutes away from Zurich’s Kloten Airport and 15 minutes from the city’s main rail station. It is also in close proximity to the Bahnhofstrasse, a popular promenade featuring a considerable variety of shops and restaurants, and an array of historic and scenic sites. Additionally, the property is a short walk from the shores of Lake Zurich.
The six-story, 91-room Glockenhof Zurich is a clean, attractive hotel with efficient, friendly service, typical of Swiss culture. After all, Switzerland is not only the heart of the watchmaking industry; it is also recognized by many as the heart of the hospitality industry.
The exterior of the property features a traditional Swiss look with beige walls and brown stonework around the windows.
The lobby is small and business-like, and not designed to invite lounging in soft chairs. Rather, it was designed for passing through and consulting with front desk staff. It is conservative in design and decorated in muted browns and beiges.
One side opens onto the Conrad restaurant, while a door at the rear of the lobby leads guests into a large open courtyard cloistered beneath the wings of the hotel.
Accommodations: The hotel’s single and double guestrooms and suites are more colorful and edgy in design than the lobby. They are elegantly appointed with black marble surfaces, parquet floors, modern oak furnishings, chrome fittings and such striking features as Plexiglas panels separating the bathrooms from sleeping areas.
All accommodations are equipped with personal safes, free WiFi and cable television with on-demand movies. Many guestrooms and suites boast views of Lake Zurich. The hotel offers a higher grade of guestrooms called Chic, which are larger in size and boast additional features and amenities.
What’s for Dinner? The Conrad restaurant serves a variety of contemporary and traditional dishes. Also on the ground floor is the Glogge Egge restaurant, which offers both indoor and sidewalk seating, as well as tables in the rear courtyard. The Glockenhof is also equipped with banquet suites that can accommodate up to 150 guests.
Best Entertainment: Although the hotel does not offer entertainment on site, it does feature packages that include entry into the Swiss Casino Zurich.
What’s Included: Breakfast is included in the room rate. It is served both buffet-style and with table service in the Conrad restaurant.
Who Books This Resort? The hotel serves both leisure and business travelers.
Key Selling Points: The Glockenhof’s most important selling point is arguable its enviable location. It is set in central Zurich at a point from which a wide array of the city's major attractions can easily be reached by walking, train or taxi in a short amount of time. Furthermore, the property is friendly and very well managed.
Getting There: Recommend that your clients buy a Swiss Rail Pass that fits the duration and geographical requirements of their visit to Switzerland. That way, transportation is never a problem.
Visitors arriving in Zurich’s main train without too much baggage can walk to the hotel through one of the city’s most popular commercial districts. Or, you can recommend that your clients take advantage of Zurich’s tram system of electric streetcars. They can take the 11 tram one stop to the Rennweg stop, which will drop them off at the Bahnhofstrasse shopping promenade.
