  • Hillary Clinton Set to Deliver GBTA Convention Keynote Address

    Hillary Rodham Clinton, a possible presidential candidate, apparently is going to be speaking to a wide spectrum of the travel industry this year, her first out of public service in nearly four decades. The Global Business Travel Association (GBTA) said the former U.S. Secretary of State and U.S. Senator is scheduled to deliver the Wednesday General Session keynote at the GBTA Convention, August 4-7, 2013, in San Diego, Calif. That will be slightly more than a month before Clinton speaks to ASTA delegates at the ASTA Convention in Miami, Sept. 17-19. Read More

  • GBTA Forecasts China to Become Largest Business Travel Market by 2015

    The Global Business Travel Association (GBTA) issued a new report that shows China is expected to become the largest market for business travel in the world by 2015. The annual GBTA BTI Outlook-China report finds that total business travel spending in the country increased by an average 15.5 percent per year from 2000 to 2012. Business travel spending is forecast to increase by another 15.1 percent in 2013 to $226 billion, while the projected growth of 16.9 percent in 2014 is more than twice the rate of the U.S. Read More

    Carlson, the global hospitality and travel company headquartered in Minneapolis, has elected Diana Nelson as incoming chairman. Nelson is the daughter of Marilyn Carlson Nelson, the company’s current chairman. She will officially assume her position next May, after having served on the company’s board for nearly 10 years.   • Travel Leaders Finds Most Business Travel Costs Decline for Third Quarter

    Travel costs for Travel Leaders Corporate’s business travel clients have mostly decreased or remained flat in the third quarter of 2012, compared with the same period in 2011, with only a few increases, according to the company’s just-released data on its third-quarter bookings. The cost of an average international airline ticket and the cost per trip segment both decreased 5 percent in the third quarter of 2012, compared with the third quarter of last year. The average cost per ticket for international air in the third quarter of 2012 was $1,622, compared with $1,710 in the third quarter of 2011.     American Express Global Business Travel’s Global Business Travel Forecast 2013 projects increases in business travel pricing in select markets in Latin America, Asia, and Eastern Europe. At the same time, global economic uncertainty – particularly due to the fiscal crisis in Europe and deceleration of growth in China – is expected to curtail demand and keep rates in mature markets, as well as in China, relatively flat.
