Viking River Cruises Delays Christening for Two of Four Newbuilds
Viking River Cruises announced that two of the four newbuilds scheduled for a March 21 christening are being delayed. The company said shipyard delays mean the Viking Freya and Viking Njord now have a scheduled delivery date of mid-April. The Viking Odin and Viking Idun will be christened as planned on March 21 in Amsterdam. Two more of Viking’s “Longships” class Viking Embla and Viking Aegir – are still scheduled for delivery in July and August 2012. Read More

Costa Concordia Confirmed Death Toll Rises to 25 with 7 Still Missing
Italian rescue crews have found eight more bodies aboard Costa Cruises’ capsized Costa Concordia, bringing the death toll to 25 with seven still missing. Identities were not immediately available. The partially submerged Costa Concordia ran aground Jan. 13 after striking rocks as it sailed near the Italian island of Giglio. Costa said salvage crews have been pumping fuel from the ship around the clock since Feb. 12. Read More

Cruise Analyst Farley Finds Cruising Ticket Prices Still Holding Firm
Robin Farley, a leisure analyst with UBS Investment Research, reports that cruise pricing is still holding with no significant declines about halfway through Wave Season, despite the Costa Concordia accident. “We note that price changes, which is what we are able to track for 7,000-plus sailings, are a lagging indicator to volume changes,” Farley wrote in the UBS Cruise Data Tracker. Silversea Offers Significantly Reduced Fares, High Onboard Spending Credits
Silversea Cruises is offering new lower fares on select 2012 cruises, including a seven-night Athens-to-Venice sailing priced from $1,999 per person double occupancy. The new fares are available on dozens of sailings to Africa, Asia, the Americas, the Mediterranean and Northern Europe. Also available are onboard spending credits of $500 to $1,000 per suite on these same voyages, with the exception of expedition cruises. Read More
