Delta Air Lines’ pilot union, the Air Line Pilots Association, said that its negotiators have reached a tentative agreement with Delta on an amended collective bargaining agreement seven months early. Capt. Tim O’Malley, the Delta union’s chairman, said that the negotiating committee accomplished a great deal of work. He said they reached a comprehensive Section 6 agreement in a little more than two months and added that this is a process that normally takes years.

The tentative agreement is now being presented to the union’s governing body for deliberation. No details on the agreement will be released until that review is complete. After the council reviews it, the rank-and-file have to approve it. The current contract stems from a deal reached in 2008, amid Delta’s acquisition of Northwest Airlines. It included raises for pilots. Pilot pay and benefits had been cut during Delta’s bankruptcy reorganization in the mid-2000s.
