Frankfurt Airport Controllers Strike to Disrupt Travel Through Feb. 24

February 21, 2012 10:00 PM

Lufthansa and other airlines said a Frankfurt Airport air traffic controllers strike that began on Feb. 20 is expected to disrupt air travel through 11 p.m. German local time on Feb. 24. Lufthansa said it regrets any inconvenience caused to passengers by the strike against the airport operator Fraport and will do its utmost to minimize the impact on passengers and operations in Frankfurt.

Despite the strike action Lufthansa said it expects to operate all long-haul flights this week as scheduled. Lufthansa was forced to cancel a total of 78 round trips (domestic and European services) on Tuesday and around 50 round trips (also domestic and European services) on Wednesday. This means that more than 80 percent of the regular flight schedule to and from Frankfurt will be operated. Measures taken by Lufthansa and Fraport to limit impact of strike actions on flight operations at Frankfurt airport are working out so that passengers can be provided with a reliable special timetable.

Lufthansa will publish the impact on flight operations for the next days as soon as possible in order to provide a stable flight schedule and planning reliability for its passengers, as we have done over the past few days. Passengers can obtain information about the status of their flights as of the afternoon of the day before their travel.
