German Tourism Launches Dream Vacation Contest on Social Media

August 06, 2012 10:28 PM

The German National Tourist Board is running a contest through the end of August entitled “The Dream Tour of Germany” as part of a new social media campaign. The GNTB is promoting Germany’s value for money proposition when compared to other international destinations. An app is being integrated into the GNTB’s international Facebook pages but participants can also play on the GNTB’s website.

“Holidays in Germany offer high quality and above-average standards at an affordable price,” said Petra Hedorfer, GNTB CEO. “Through this campaign, we aim to draw attention to the value for money offered by holidays in Germany and to give an immediate boost to the tourism market.”

Some 23 GNTB partners are supporting the campaign by providing modules for the dream tours, which can later be redeemed using vouchers. After the dream tour has been configured, entrants are then encouraged to send out a virtual invitation asking their friends and family to join in the fun. The number of entrants in the competition thus increases exponentially and the GNTB registers more fans, harnessing the viral effect to achieve the greatest possible reach and response rate. One winner will be chosen from each target market will then be able to turn the tour they created into reality for themselves and one companion. Prizes must be taken before the end of the year. Each winner will then report on their tour of Germany on Facebook or Twitter.
