Great Southern Rail Offers Discount on Classic Trains Downunder

February 19, 2012 9:09 PM

For a limited time, travelers to Australia who reserve a spot with Great Southern Rail on The Ghan, Indian Pacific or The Southern Spirit will receive up to 25 percent off of every ticket booked now through March 31 for travel through March 2013. Prices start at $615 per person for Gold Service. The early booking promotion only applies to Gold Service.

The Ghan takes guests from Darwin to Adelaide or vice versa, traveling through Alice Springs and the heart of Australia. This journey is considered one of the great train journeys of the world and is aptly named after the Afghans who ran the camel trains between northern and southern Australia.

The Indian Pacific connects Australia’s east and west coast from Perth to Sydney. The journey meanders through the Blue Mountains, Adelaide and across the ever-changing outback along the inspiring Nullarbor Plain.

The Southern Spirit travels between Adelaide and Brisbane. The Southern Spirit explores the path less traveled, allowing guests to take in the sights of four Australian states as it winds through the Great Dividing Range and along Australia’s Eastern Seaboard. Each train journey will make whistle stops at a variety of Australia’s top destinations including Byron Bay, Alice Springs, The Grampians, Darwin and Adelaide, offering excursions on each route.
