The Hertz Corporation was founded over 95 years ago in Chicago, as a small operation renting 12 Model T Fords. Now the world’s largest general use car rental brand, the company operates from 8,500 corporate and licensee locations in 150 countries in North America, Europe, Latin America, Asia, Australia, Africa, the Middle East and New Zealand. Hertz is the number-one airport car rental brand in the U.S., and serves 199 major airports in Europe.
Hertz has the most diversified fleet in the car rental industry, with cars from such manufacturers as General Motors, Ford, Toyota, Nissan, Chrysler Fiat, Mazda, Mercedes and Audi. Luxury cars, sports cars and fuel-efficient cars are offered by Hertz in its Prestige, Adrenaline and Green Traveler Collections, and can be rented by exact make and model; the car a traveler reserves is the car he or she will receive at time of rental.
Products and services that set Hertz apart from the competition include Hertz Gold Plus Rewards, the customer loyalty program with numerous perks and benefits; NeverLost® customized, onboard navigation systems; and Sirius XM Satellite Radio. In 2008, the company entered the global car-sharing market with Hertz On Demand, which rents cars by the hour and/or by the day, at various locations in the U.S., Canada and Europe.
Additional innovations launched by Hertz include ExpressRent Interactive Kiosks, which customers can use to rent a car without a reservation and without a line through a live, face-to-face video kiosk; the Hertz SmartPhone app, allowing renters to make, view or change a reservation from their phone; online check-in; and PlatePass, an electronic toll payment service that allows renters to bypass cash toll lanes.
