InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) has announced renovation plans for upscale and resort properties in key Caribbean markets, alongside recent additions to the region’s existing hotels.
In particular, four new hotels were signed into the active hotel development pipeline within the past 12 months, including the Crowne Plaza San Juan , a 264-room hotel expected to break ground in late 2012 and open in 2014 at the new Mall of San Juan multi-use retail and entertainment complex; the Holiday Inn Isla Verde, a 225-room hotel expected to open in 2015 near the capital district and international airport; the Holiday Inn Express Nassau, Bahamas, a 58-room conversion property expected to break ground before the end of 2012 and open in summer 2013; and the Holiday Inn Resort Grand Cayman, a 117-room conversion resort near the island’s Seven Mile Beach, expected to open in early 2013
Additionally, the company will renovate the 597-room Holiday Inn Resort Aruba; and the owners of the 938-room InterContinental San Juan hotel have committed to a multi-phase refurbishment, which commenced this fall. In the first phase, updates include new guestroom bedding and décor, as well as the complete remodeling of each meeting room. Currently, IHG has 80 hotels open in its Latin America and Caribbean region, with 19 additional hotels in the development pipeline representing more than 3,100 new rooms.
