Puerto Costa Maya, a popular port call south of Cancun, sustained little damage when Hurricane Ernesto passed by on Aug. 7. The structure of the pier is intact, but some clean-up was required in the mall area, said Cesar Lizarraga, vice president of port operations in an email. He added that the port will be ready for its next call, scheduled for Aug. 21. Ernesto lost strength as it moved over Mexico and was downgraded on Wednesday to a tropical storm.

Tropical storm conditions continued to spread westward Wednesday night and Thursday. Hurricane conditions are possible on Thursday, according to the National Hurricane Center. Ernesto was expected to produce total rainfall accumulations of four to eight inches with isolated maximum of 12 inches over the Mexican states of Tabasco and Veracruz. About two to four inches of rain was expected over northern Belize, northern Guatemala and the southern YucatanPeninsula.
