Montenegro Unveils Plans for $1.26 Billion Resort Complex
Luštica Bay, a new seaside resort community on the southern coast of the Luštica Peninsula in Montenegro, is being developed by Luštica Development AD, a joint venture of Orascom Development Ltd., a Swiss-based international town developer, and the government of Montenegro. Representing a planned investment of 1 billion euros ($1.26 million), the project’s guiding principle is to create a more prosperous Montenegro through intelligent development, following the tenets of sustainability and environmental integrity.
San Francisco- and Miami-based SB Architects has been selected to design Lustica Bay Marina Village, phase one of the resort complex. Scheduled to begin construction in early 2013, Luštica Bay Marina Village will comprise 190 residences, a yacht club and marina facilities catering to boat owners and their crews, a marine biology institute, promenade retail and dining, and a 60-key boutique hotel. The multi-phased Luštica Bay project will encompass 1,680 acres and, when complete, will include seven hotels totaling 2,200 rooms; 1,600 apartments; 750 villas; a mixed-use village featuring retail, a school and medical clinic; two marinas; a conference center; and a signature 18-hole golf course, the largest in Montenegro.
LušticaBay Marina Villagewill be the primary component of the project’s first phase. The boutique hotel, situated mid-way up the hillside, will overlook the entire marina. A dramatic bridge will lead directly from the hotel to one of the upper marina promenade buildings and its roof-top bar, lounge, pool and cabanas.
