Myanmar Tourism to Offer Online Visa Program
Myanmar’s Ministry of Hotels and Tourism has unveiled plans to roll out an online electronic visa system this year to ease foreign visitor’s travel and promote tourism. The ministry has started installing Internet lines at the information departments of the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Ministry of Immigration and Population, according to the Yangon Times.
The liberalization of visa procedures is likely to facilitate another jump in tourist arrivals this year. Total arrivals to Myanmar last year were 816,369. Visas on arrival are currently permitted for passengers on Myanmar Airways International flights arriving from Cambodia’s Phnom Penh and Siem Reap, and China’s Guangzhou.
