New Orleans CVB Launches New Mobile Search Platform
The MeNetwork (MeNet), a proprietary text-based search platform that connects consumers and local businesses directly via any mobile phone, has officially launched in New Orleans. The company, which rolled out a successful soft launch this spring after striking a deal with the New Orleans Convention & Visitors Bureau, brings more than 700 local merchants onto its mobile search platform.
MeNet will be used to help locals and travelers to New Orleans instantly obtain relevant, timely information and exclusive deals from restaurants, music venues, attractions, hotels and more. The New Orleans Convention & Visitors Bureau is also able to leverage the sms-based search engine to bring convention and event organizers a customized service that delivers offers created especially for event attendees. MeNet, which is compatible with 98 percent of mobile phones in the U.S. and requires no applications or downloads, only provides messages when a user requests them. Users can search and access deals by texting their location and interest to a dedicated short code. For instance, by sending the text message “Nola deals” to 63638, users will receive real-time deals put in place by the merchants. “Nola oysters” will provide specific offers on oysters, etc.
For merchants, MeNet provides a platform for reaching consumers on their most-used device, the mobile phone -- at a time when the consumer is about to take action. Using MeNet’s merchant tool, businesses can create special campaigns in under two minutes and choose to have them delivered anytime someone queries one of 20 key words those businesses select. Merchants pay a special visitor’s bureau rate to use the service. Normal text messaging rates apply to consumers, but it’s otherwise free to perform a search and receive results.
