As the 2015-16 National Hockey League season approaches, the NHL announced it will team up with Air Canada on a six-year deal to be the official air carrier of the seven Canadian teams in the league.
Starting in September, Air Canada will provide air transportation through Air Canada Jetz, an all-Premium charter service operated by the airline. The teams involved in the new contract include the Montreal Canadiens, Ottawa Senators, Toronto Maple Leafs, Winnipeg Jets, Calgary Flames, Edmonton Oilers and Vancouver Canucks.
In addition to the six-year deals with the Canadian NHL teams, Air Canada has signed a contract with the Toronto Blue Jays of Major League Baseball, using the same Air Canada Jetz aircrafts and personnel.
Air Canada president Benjamin Smith released a statement on the new deal with the NHL:
“As Canada's flag carrier, we are very proud to have been drafted by all seven Canadian teams to carry them for the next six years. Hockey is an expression of our national identity and it connects all Canadians, roles Air Canada itself aspires to fulfill."
"Moreover, as an airline we prize our reputation for safety, reliability and comfort, and the fact all of Canada's top pro teams have chosen Air Canada is an endorsement of our services and products. With Air Canada Jetz, the teams will enjoy such amenities as all-Premium seating, dedicated mainline Air Canada crews offering specialized service, in-flight Wi-Fi and the many other benefits familiar to Air Canada premium customers.”
