Air France Jet Lands Safely

An Air France flight landed safely back in Paris early this morning after declaring an emergency shortly after takeoff.

Air France flight 852 left Paris Orly this morning at 10:15 a.m. local time, 4:15 a.m. ET, but suffered what the airline called a “minor technical issue” just after takeoff.

Air France said the flight, departing for Cayenne in French Guiana in South America for a 4,400-mile journey, was returning to Paris as the carrier was following airline and manufacturer protocol.

Reports indicate the flight could be seen flying at low altitude and making a fuel dump as it circled back to return to Paris. It touched down at Charles De Gaulle Airport shortly after Noon Paris time, 6 a.m. ET.

The airline said De Gaulle was chosen because it was better equipped to handle any emergencies.

Air France said passengers would depart again for Cayenne at approximately 2 p.m. local time, 8 a.m. ET.
