The only thing missing is the auctioneer with his rapid-fire delivery.
Air Astana, the national airline of the country of Kazakhstan, has come up with a rather unique program for passengers who want to upgrade their seats from economy to business class.
Bid on it.
That’s right, bid on it.
Passengers who have already purchased an economy fare on an Air Astana flight can go online starting 72 hours before the flight leaves and bid for an upgrade to business class. In what is akin to something like Priceline.com, passengers can name their own price, with a minimum and maximum range, and bid for the upgrade against other customers.
Passengers who book with Air Astana’s website will receive an email directing them to a dedicated login page where they can make their bid. Customers who book via travel agents and other third parties will also be able to bid online for an upgrade as well.
Customers provide credit card information when bidding, but the payment is only processed if you win the bid. It appears you can only make one bid, with the highest bid declared the winner. Passengers would then, and only then, be charged for the upgrade and sent a new business class ticket via email.
