Virgin Australia To Renew Rivalry With Qantas
After raising more than $850 million in capital, Virgin Australia has said that it may now be in a position to renew its rivalry with Qantas. This is good news for fliers, because increased competition should keep fares low.

American Airlines Adds O’Hare Flights
American Airlines will add flights to Midwest destinations from Chicago O’Hare. The airline will fly to Lansing, Michigan three times per day in late August and also start twice-daily flights to Akron-Canton in October.

Cathay Pacific Announces Ban on Shark Fin
After protests and negative media coverage, Hong Kong carrier Cathay Pacific has announced that it will stop transporting shark fins on commercial and cargo flights.

Lufthansa To Launch Flights to Silicon Valley
Lufthansa will start flying between Frankfurt and San Jose International five times per week. The first flight will take off on July 1.


If you want to travel cheaply in India, now is the best time of the year. This is traditionally a low season for travel and fares on domestic carriers are down by as much as 30 percent for flights from July through September. 

Dubai International will have one of its busiest times of year over the next two weekends. The airport expects to see more than two million passengers over the weekends of June 30 and July 7. 

IAG CEO Willy Walsh has warned the UK government to keep costs down for the runway expansions at London area airports. According to Walsh, if the project is too expensive, the cost would be passed on the airlines and passengers

Volaris has started service between Chicago O’Hare and Monterrey, Mexico. The flights will run three days per week. Volaris will be competing with United, which operates two flights per day on the route.
