American Airlines has become the third domestic carrier to offer passengers the ability to track their bags online.
While every airline has a website or app to track your flight online, American is joining Delta and US Airways - which American acquired two years ago - as airlines offering the service.
Passengers will be able to track their bags in real time using American's website for all domestic flights, or on international flights where American Airlines - not a partner - is the final carrier to the destination.
The website will carry a special "Track Your Bags" tab. Enter your name and record locater number or bag tag number, and you will be able to see exactly where your bag is from the point of check-in to the point of pickup at the luggage carousel.
Expect other airlines to follow suit, as bag-tracking is quickly trending in the industry. According to Agency France Presse, Air France-KLM has a bag tracking device with permanent, reusable electronic tags that are affixed inside and outside the bag.
In addition, luggage-maker Tumi is expected to unveil its global bag-tracking device that allows passenger to follow their luggage on any airline.
