American Reports Record August Traffic
American Airlines Group today reported August 2015 and year-to-date traffic results, getting a huge boost from a robust Asia-Pacific market.
American Airlines Group's total revenue passenger miles (RPMs) were 21.0 billion, up 5.0 percent versus August 2014. Total capacity was 24.3 billion available seat miles (ASMs), up 2.7 percent versus August 2014. Total passenger load factor was 86.5 percent, up 1.9 percentage points versus August 2014. All three metrics were records for the month of August.
Month over month, Asia-Pacific was up 15.7 percent compared to August of 2014. Year over year, it was even better – travel to the Pacific region has grown 27.8 percent in the first eight months of 2015 compared to the same time period in 2014.
However, AAG did caution that it continues to expect its third quarter 2015 consolidated passenger revenue per available seat mile (PRASM) to be down approximately six to eight percent year-over-year. In addition, the company continues to expect its third quarter pretax margin excluding special items to be between 16 and 18 percent.
