Beauty on the Fly: Cosmetics Vending Machines at the Airport
Got a layover with a few hours to spare? Have no fear beauty junkies, there is a way to kill time and fulfill your makeup curiosities. The latest trend in beauty retail has been popping up at shopping malls, nightclubs, supermarkets, train stations and airports everywhere for your emergency beauty needs on the go. Vending machines from major brands like Chanel, Lancome, L’oreal, Benefit, Essie and Elizabeth Arden are at your convenience — just to name a few.
Beauty blogger Huda Kattan has such a big following she has launched her first vending machine carrying her cruelty free mink lashes and faux nail sets in the Dubai Sunset Mall. U’tique is offering high-end best sellers in an ultra modern way at Fred Segal in LA. Chanel’s Nailmatic machine was initially intended to promote new products like nail polishes and Le Volume mascara.

Sephora was the first to jump on the beauty kiosk concept back in 2009. Today they offer over 50 selections of best sellers from products like Bare Escentuals, Korres, Smashbox, Juicy Couture, Dior, Philosophy, Murad and more found all over the U.S. Now you never have to worry about forgetting any of your favorite toiletries because it’s all there at the touch of your fingertips.
Benefit can be found at selected U.S. airports selling 30 of the brand’s bestselling products like the PoreFessional Primer and the They’re Real Mascara. I love the cute pink vintage bus style of the machine, which is so true to the Benefit kitsch style. Not familiar with all the products? The touchscreen device gives make-up tips and tricks to the busy traveler.
3 FLOZ is the genius TSA-approved travel sized brands selected by the co-owners Alexi and Kate. Here you will find personal care products for both men and women like Malin+Goetz, Jack Black, Burt’s Bees, The Art of Shaving and St. Tropez… in case you forgot your sunscreen on the way to your Caribbean beach trip.
Essie Color Boutique
The Essie Color Boutique in major airports across the U.S. holds 48 shades from the main collection and six from the rotating seasonal collection. Now you have no worries if you have a chipped nail or you have some time to kill at the airport. I’d pass on giving yourself a pedicure while you wait, though. Look for the airport salon called Be Relax that could offer a fabulous pedicure and foot massage before you hop on the plane.
I realize that nothing replaces face to face service with your beauty expert, but this is a perfect last minute purchase for that OMG moment when you realize you forgot to pack your mascara or sunscreen. It’s great for the brands you already know and have tried.
The only problem I foresee is one of the products getting trapped on the way down the machine after purchase. That brings me back to my high school days in the cafeteria when you could just call on the closest jock to give the machine a little tip to the side to retrieve that Snickers Bar that got stuck. My word of advice… please don’t get arrested at the airport over a mascara!
