A couple in China who missed their flight last week was arrested after the duo forced their way onto the airport’s tarmac and crouched underneath the plane to prevent it from taking off.
According to Stuff, the man and woman were attempting to board an Air China domestic flight from Beijing to Shanghai last Wednesday when employees informed them that they missed the last boarding call.
Instead of waiting for the next flight, the couple pushed past employees and ran onto the runway in an attempt to board the plane. When the flight crew refused to let the man and woman board, the female crawled underneath the plane and wouldn’t come out.
When police approached the couple, the woman became emotional and started crying and waving her arms. The duo was arrested, but not before the man was forced to drag the woman out from underneath the aircraft. The couple spent five days detained following the incident.
The man and woman claimed that they missed the flight—which took off 20 minutes after the scheduled departure time—due to the fact that they were never informed about the boarding time. Authorities pointed out that the departure time and boarding time were printed on their tickets.
According to Chinese law, people who block runways or disrupt flight departures can be fined 500 yuan and could serve between 5-10 days in jail.
