We've seen mid-air fights over reclining seats and the Knee Defender, over alcohol, over arguments that got out of hand … but a baby?
Sure, the crying baby on an airplane can be a nuisance. But on an Air China flight it was enough to cause a full-blown fight in the aisle.
The incident happened Thursday on a flight from Chongqing to Hong Kong when two women complained they were awakened from a nap by a crying baby seated directly behind them. The two women confronted the mother, 27-year-old Chan Juan Sung, and an argument ensued.
The two women then decided to fully recline their seats back toward the mother and her child, and that's when things got out of hand. A melee among the three women began, spilling into the aisle where one of the three hit her head on an overhead bin.
The pilot of the Air China flight then threatened to turn back and make an emergency landing
"I was sitting right next to them when they started telling the woman to shut the baby up," passenger Xiong Wan told the Lodon Daily Mail. "She started shouting back at them and before I knew what was happening she leant over the seat and punched one of them. They then started hitting her and all hell broke loose. They were fighting, the baby was now screaming and other passengers were shouting. It was like some bizarre film."
Crew broke up the scuffle and the plane landed on time, without further incident, in Hong Kong, where police were waiting to interview the women.
Air China spokesman Daio Weimin told the Daily Mail: "Passengers cannot behave like this. Each and everyone must adhere to aviation laws to ensure a safe and comfortable flight for all."
