Delta Air Lines Announces Private Jet Upgrade for Medallion Members

If it sounds too good to be true, don't worry. It's not.

Delta Air Lines has announced a new upgrade for lucky Medallion members that could have them flying to their next destination on a private jet.

That's right, for an extra few hundred dollars, Delta's most loyal customers will have the opportunity to avoid the grind of flying commercial in favor of a business jet.

However it should be noted that the stars will have to align just right.

While the cost of the private jet upgrades will range anywhere from $300 to $800 depending on the destination, jet availability is likely to complicate the process, which is still patent-pending, the airline said. The carrier stated that "the private upgrade opportunities will be limited to select passengers in specific markets where an available Delta Private Jets aircraft is otherwise not in use."

But if all of those boxes are checked, Delta said that customers will be offered the available upgrade conveniently via email. And the attached fee will cover transportation to the airport's private aviation area ahead of departure as well as complimentary catering once on board.

But it'll be tough for any of those perks to top the additional legroom.

"This is truly a groundbreaking new approach from both industry standpoints," said Delta Private Jets vice president of operations James Murray via "Nobody else can do what we're talking about doing."

Delta Vacations president John Caldwell echoed those sentiments in a statement.

"Private travel offers concierge-level services that Delta's premium customers are sure to appreciate, and Delta Vacations is pleased to offer opportunities for these experiences," said Caldwell. "This is an innovative way for us to thank valued Delta customers for their loyalty." reported that the first flight could take place as soon as Wednesday.
