Denver International Airport is definitely one airport that gets it when it comes to being one of the best in the country.
Case in point: DIA just opened a free ice skating rink on the open-air plaza as part of its holiday offerings. The rink opened on Friday, the day after Thanksgiving.
“During the winter holiday travel season, millions of passengers pass through Denver International Airport en route to visit family and friends, to enjoy Colorado’s extraordinary wintertime recreation options, or just to connect to another part of the world,” Denver airport CEO Kim Day said in a statement. “This year we are providing a variety of new entertainment options and we encourage passengers to come early and spend some extra time with us to enjoy the Colorado spirit at the airport.”
The rink is located pre-security, is open to the public and is accessible just steps from the new University of Colorado A Line train station or a short walk from the airport parking garages. The rink will be open every day from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. until Jan. 1, 2017. Denver International will provide a true Colorado winter experience on ice with characters and carolers surprising the crowd as they spontaneously arrive and provide entertainment. There will also be family-friendly music playing in the background.
The ice skating rink is actually in partnership with Denver International’s largest tenant, United Airlines. Visitors to the ice skating rink and other holiday activities will have the opportunity to enter to win two round-trip tickets on United Airlines (restrictions apply). The deadline to enter is Jan. 1, 2017.
Other holiday amenities include a “Film on the Fly” series with holiday classic films, as well as a holiday market.
