A Lufthansa jet traveling from Frankfurt, Germany to Los Angeles was nearly struck by a drone Friday afternoon, ABC News reported.
The drone came within 200 feet of the airplane, according to ABC.
At the time, the plane was flying above the crowded Los Angeles suburbs about 14 miles east of the airport, ABC said. The aircraft landed safely.

Police and Los Angeles County sheriff's officers are looking for the drone and its owner, ABC reported.
While no collisions between drones and manned aircraft have been reported yet, a report released last year by Bard College's Center for the Study of the Drone in New York revealed that there have been at least 241 reports of close encounters, ABC said. In 28 of those close encounters, pilots had to veer out of the way.

"This is one more incident that could have brought down an airliner, and it's completely unacceptable," Sen. Dianne Feinstein said in a statement to ABC News. "A near-miss of 200 feet should serve as a stark reminder of the dangers posed by reckless drone use."
