EE Emerges as Top Mobile Network Operator at Gatwick, Heathrow Airports
EE beats out fellow mobile network operators Vodafone, Three, and O2 when it comes to offering the fastest download and upload speeds at London's Gatwick Airport and Heathrow Airport, according to ITPro.co.uk.
Mobile network performance testing company RootMetrics recently measured data speeds for the four operators at both locations.
Receiving an impressive all-round score of 97.2 at Gatwick, EE boasted an upload speed of 17.85 Mbps and slightly faster downloads at 20.40 Mbps. At Heathrow, EE turned in an all-around score of 96.7 with upload and download speeds at 18.06 Mbps and 31.22 Mbps, respectively.
Vodafone was second-best at both airports, but it wasn't close to threatening EE, earning all-around scores of 86.5 (Gatwick) and 84.6 (Heathrow). Vodafone saw improved download speeds at Gatwick but better upload speeds at Heathrow.
"The core components are reliability and speed," stated the RootMetrics report. "These two factors have the greatest impact on your mobile experience. At each airport, we measure how reliably and quickly each network is able to download and upload data, perform email tasks, and handle files that represent elements of a webpage or app, among others."
Three and O2 trailed EE and Vodafone at both airports. However, the two operators each fared better at Heathrow thanks to faster upload and download speeds.
So far, the Bellevue, Washington-based RootMetrics has conducted mobile performance tests at more than four dozen U.S. metropolitan areas, nearly two dozen U.S. airports, and as many as seven metros in the U.K.
The company plans to conduct many more performance tests over the course of 2015, aiming to have tested 50 U.S. airports and three U.K. airports by the second half of the year.
