Who needs tablets and laptops anyway?
That's the question Emirates Airline is asking today as it rushed out a new television commercial in reaction to the large-size electronics ban very recently issued by the United States. (A similar, followup ban is being enacted by the United Kingdom as well.)
Emirates is one of the nine airlines and 10 airports on the list in which passengers cannot take any electronic device larger than a cell phone as a carry-on for flights to the U.S. Laptops, tablets, cameras, portable DVDs, etc. must be packed with checked luggage.
While Emirates certainly isn't thrilled with the new edict, it decided to have a little fun with the electronics ban and push its own in-flight entertainment system, with more than 2,500 channels of the latest movies, box sets, live sports and kids TV.
It was a quick and easy turnaround.
Emirates took a recent 30-second commercial featuring its spokesperson, American actress Jennifer Aniston, and cut it down to 18 seconds, adding some chatter at the beginning of the spot-"Who needs tablets and laptops anyway?"-and the end-"Let us entertain you".
