Etihad Airways to Offer Travelers A Taste of Luxury in New Airbus A380
The connection between New York and Abu Dhabi became stronger Wednesday when Etihad Airways revealed the airline’s new Airbus A380 service would make its debut on Dec. 1, 2015.
According to a press release from Etihad Airways, Travelers looking to make the journey from New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport to Abu Dhabi will be able to do so in the lap of luxury on the new Airbus A380.
Etihad Airways currently offers two flights between New York and Abu Dhabi, but the addition of the bigger Airbus A380 will help the company satisfy the increasing demands. In the release, Etihad Airways reported that its, “Business and Economy Class load factors exceeded 80% on the popular route.”
Etihad Airways president and CEO James Hogan spoke about the importance of the American market, via a press release:
"The United States is a strategically important part of Etihad Airways’ growing global network and as a result of increased demand from our guests traveling between New York and Abu Dhabi — and onto the world, we are pleased to upgrade one of our two daily flights to an A380. At Etihad Airways, we are committed to offering unmatched luxury, comfort and convenience for our guests traveling with us across every class of service. New York marks the first U.S. destination where we will introduce our industry-leading A380 aircraft products and experience.”
What distinguishes the A380 from other planes is the amenities included. The aircraft features The Residence by Etihad, commercial aviation’s first private three-room suite. The suite measures 125 square feet and features a living room, bedroom and a separate en-suite shower room. The Residence by Etihad also features multiple televisions and a butler to help take care of any needs during the flight.
The official Twitter of the World Travel, Catering and Onboard Services Expo shared an example of what a room looks like on an Etihad Airways flight:
The wide-body craft also features First Apartment Suites, Business Studios and Economy Smart Seats. The First Apartment Suites offer a private living area with a leather lounge chair and a fold-out bed, and has a 74 percent increase in total area over normal first-class seating. In the same vein, the Business Studios feature a bed and offer travelers a 20 percent increase in area.
On the other hand, the 415 Economy Smart Seats are much more comfortable than most standard airline seating and feature an 11.1” television for each person. Add in all of the other amenities like wireless headphones, Wi-Fi service and multiple power points, and there isn’t a bad seat in the plane.
With a flight from Abu Dhabi to New York City averaging 14 hours and 45 minutes, the company has proven with their upgrades that sitting in the lap of luxury during the experience is one of Etihad Airways' top priorities.
