Etihad Airways and Hong Kong Airlines have expanded their codeshare agreement to bolster connections between the Middle East, Asia and Europe.

Under the agreement, Hong Kong Airlines will put its flight code on Etihad’s flights between Abu Dhabi, Etihad’s hub and the capital of the U.A.E., and Hong Kong.

Etihad began daily flights on the route beginning June 15. Etihad will deploy Airbus A330-200 aircraft on the route and will offer 3,620 seats per week.

The airline partners also aim to enhance connections between the Asia-Pacific region and the Middle East by codesharing on Etihad’s Madrid-Abu Dhabi flights, initiated last year.

The codeshare arrangements between the two airlines began last December with Etihad codesharing on Hong Kong Airlines’ Bangkok-Hong Kong flights as well as its Hong Kong-Okinawa flights and Hong Kong Airlines piggybacking on Etihad’s service between Abu Dhabi and Bangkok.

Etihad plans to expand the frequency of its Abu Dhabi-Bangkok service from three to four flights a day beginning July 1.
