JetBlue Now Streaming Live MLB Games In the Air
Baseball fans have a new reason to fly with JetBlue now as the company announced a new partnership with Major League Baseball.
JetBlue announced Thursday that the airline and Major League Baseball Advanced Media (MLBAM) have teamed up to offer customer free access to MLB.TV through the MLB.com “At Bat” mobile app available on laptops, smartphones and tablets.
Passengers aboard flights with Fly-Fi accessibility—JetBlue’s onboard broadband internet—will be offered complimentary access to MLB.TV’s more than 2,500 live and archived games on demand per season. The streaming service usually requires a subscription, but JetBlue customers will receive free access.
Customers can catch any regular season game being played by any team at any time.
JetBlue vice president of brand and product development Jamie Perry released a statement about the partnership, saying, “Launching MLB.TV is a home run for our customers who are getting more free entertainment than ever included in their JetBlue flights. Whether it's sports, movies, television, music, news or e-books, we're offering endless entertainment options across multiple screens that goes far away from the drop-down televisions of yesterday that many airlines still serve to customers.”
The airline offers internet speeds of up to 20 mbps per device, which should be more than enough to enable viewing of the on-demand and live MLB video libraries. The MLB.TV service is the first live sports property to join JetBlue's entertainment content.
Unlike many other airlines, JetBlue offers its Wi-Fi for free. Add in the MLB.TV service, DIRECTV programming and SiriusXM radio, and there are now even more options for passenger entertainment during flights.
