Officials for the Los Cabos International Airport said they hope to be able to begin accepting commercial flights by Oct. 9 in the wake of Hurricane Odile, according to a statement from Grupo Aeroportuario Pacifico (GAP), which operates the airport.
It is expected that the airport will be fully operational by Nov. 25, GAP said.
GAP said it is focusing its efforts on repairing the formidable damage incurred to terminals 1 and 2 to meet FAA regulations.
In the meantime, the airport will only be used for official, humanitarian and rescue flights.
GAP stressed that airport opening dates are subject to change and that it will post regular updates on the progress being made.
Hurricane Odile struck Los Cabos late on Sept. 14 and is believed to be the most devastating hurricane to hit the region in 50 years.
