Norwegian Air is poised to begin offering flights between the U.S. and Europe this summer for as low as $65.

According to Bloomberg, the carrier will begin service on 10 new trans-Atlantic routes this summer using six of its new Boeing 737 Max aircraft capable of seating up to 189 passengers.

Beginning June 15, Norwegian will launch service between Edinburgh, Scotland and Newburgh, New York by way of Stewart International Airport. It will also offer flights between Edinburgh and T.F. Green Airport in Providence, Rhode Island as well as Connecticut's Bradley International Airport.

In July, Norwegian will launch service between Irish cities including Belfast, Cork, Dublin, and Shannon to Providence and Newburgh. The latter destination is about a 90-minute drive from New York City.

"It's a big catchment area that these three airports cover," Norwegian's senior vice president of sales Lars Sande told Bloomberg in a phone interview. "And all three airports are very efficient," he added, referring to cost.

Sande also told Bloomberg that the airline will have "quite a few thousand seats" available for the promotional fare of $65.

The tourism community is equally excited about the growth in affordable flights between the countries.

"The US is Britain's most valuable inbound visitor market worth more than £3 billion annually to the UK economy and increasing airline seat capacity and regional connectivity will not only boost growth from this crucial market but help spread the economic benefits of tourism across our more of our nations and regions," said Paul Geiger, interim executive vice president, Americas, for VisitBritain.

The next fare level will rise to $99 and climb from there.

Bloomberg reported the new flights will be mainly staffed by U.S.-based crew members working out of its two U.S. bases at T.F. Green Airport and Stewart International Airport.
