Mamava's breastfeeding and pumping pods, formally known as Lactation Suites, are now available to mothers passing through New York's main airports.
According to the New York Times, the four-foot-by-eight-foot pods debuted at John F. Kennedy International, Newark Liberty International, and LaGuardia Airports late last week, just in time for Mother's Day. The three New York-area airports now combine to boast four of the futuristic nursing pods, with two available at Newark Liberty and one each at JFK and LaGuardia.
The convenient suites arrive less than two months after Milwaukee's General Mitchell International Airport unveiled a trio of private stations for nursing mothers. The Wisconsin airport was the first in the U.S. to purchase Mamava's innovative pods.
"Airports can be stressful environments and are busy, and we want to give moms a clean and comfortable area where they can pump or nurse," said Ashley Orgain, manager of mission advocacy and outreach for Seventh Generation, the company that sponsored the installation of the pods.
The brand new New York airport pods feature two benches with enough seating available to fit a family of four and their luggage comfortably.
Electrical outlets and a fully-shutting door provide added convenience and privacy.
Nursing mothers at JFK can find the pod at the JetBlue Terminal, but Mamava has also created an app to assist passengers in finding the Lactation Suites at all three airports. The app is available through Apple and is expected to be available through Android some time this summer.
In addition to New York and Milwaukee, Mamava CEO Sascha Mayer confirmed earlier this year that discussions were underway involving pods at other major airports in Atlanta and Houston.
