The Dominican Republic's Punta Cana International Airport is well on its way to becoming a destination in its own right.
The New York Post reports the airport is constructing a luxurious outdoor swimming pool that will overlook the runways as part of a VIP lounge.
Designed by local architect Antonio Segundo Imbert, the unique amenity is scheduled to open to passengers this December.

Once open, passengers flying first or business class will have access along with select homeowners, club members and elite traveler pass-holders.
However, anyone can go for a swim with the purchase of a $125-per-person day pass. Groups of three or more can gain access for the day for just $100 per person. Although pricey, how many travelers can say they've swum above an airport runway?
A rendering of the pool shows stellar views of the tarmac and parked planes as well as lounge-style seating around the pool.
There are certainly worse ways to kick off or wind down your vacation in the Dominican Republic.
Punta Cana International Airport is poised to join the likes of Singapore Changi Airport as one of the few facilities offering travelers the chance to relax and soak as they watch their fellow passengers take to the sky.
