Love natural wonders and astronomy?
Alaska Airlines is taking you on a chase for the "Great American Eclipse" via a charter flight August 21.
Passengers will board an Alaska Airlines plane in Portland and fly off the coast of Oregon to witness the eclipse phenomenon. While the flight is not commercially bookable, the carrier is offering a contest to award one winner and a guest the chance to be part of the unique experience.
The Great American Eclipse contest starts July 21 on the airline's social media channels.
While the weather in the Northwest can be volatile and potentially ruin the views, Alaska Airlines is not giving Mother Nature the opportunity and will transport passengers above the clouds to around 35,000 feet in elevation.
"As an airline, we are in a unique position to provide a one-of-a-kind experience for astronomy enthusiasts," Alaska Airlines vice president Sangita Woerner said in a statement. "Flying high above the Pacific Ocean will not only provide one of the first views, but also one of the best."

The reason so many people are buzzing about the "Great American Eclipse" is that it will be the first coast-to-coast total solar eclipse in United States history since 1918. People on the West Coast will be the first to see it as it travels diagonally across the country to South Carolina.
For those who can't be part of Alaska Airlines' eclipse flight, the total solar eclipse will be viewable from specific locations, including Charleston, Nashville, St. Louis, Atlanta and Kansas City, Missouri.
