In some ways, the adage "all dressed up and nowhere to go" applies to Russia’s swanky new athlete airplane.
Wired profiles the lavish confines of Sukhoi Civil Aircraft’s newest airplane, which is reportedly to be used to transport athletes around the world.
The aptly named SportJet is a wonder of technological innovation and also boasts a cavernous cabin replete with amenities you would presume hardworking athletes might enjoy. As Wired reminds, some athletes would be kept from enjoying any amount of flying in the near future. So even if the plane were ready it wouldn’t matter much to them anyway.
The BBC reports previously Olympic-bound athletes will be kept from the frivolity and joy of the Summer Games following an extensive doping scandal. But this story isn’t about the have nots so much as it’s about an airplane that packs a wallop of innovation.
The following Facebook video introduces a great deal of the amenities:
As mentioned, the planes will not be ready by the Olympics. The report states Sukhoi is hoping to begin manufacture by 2018, which is when these amazing aircrafts will roll out with things like massage tables, fitness equipment and seats that monitor blood pressure.
As for capacity, 108 people can pack into these jets which also double as some sort of flying training facility.
Wired notes a plane that has everything from treadmills to “rest zones.” It’s the kind of plane that we can only dream of enjoying.
Every traveler suffers from jetlag and cramped confines in-flight. It seems you have to be an elite athlete these days to truly enjoy all that flying could and should be.
Perhaps we should start training now.
