Seattle-Tacoma International Airport is already one of the busiest airports in the United States, and the facility announced Thursday that it had broken its all-time monthly passenger record in June.
The Port of Seattle released a statement reporting that Sea-Tac airport served 4,011,247 passengers last month, which is a 12 percent increase from June 2014. International travel also increased in June, climbing 12.7 percent to a total of 397,523.
Sea-Tac airport set a new record by serving four million passengers for the first time in its history, beating the facility's previous high of 3,968,007 passengers in August of 2014. The summer months are typically the busiest for the airport.
Port of Seattle Commission co-president Stephanie Bowman released a statement, "The increase in traffic at Sea-Tac highlights the critical role the airport plays in providing domestic and international connections that benefit our leading companies and travelers. We are moving forward with these vital opportunities for the region's economy."
For 2015 as a whole, the numbers at Sea-Tac airport are on the rise, climbing 13.1 percent overall and 15.7 percent for international passengers. Last year, the facility served nearly 37.5 million passengers, an all-time record.
If Sea-Tac airport continues at the current trajectory, the Port of Seattle expects the final numbers for 2015 to help the airport become the 13th busiest airport in the United States.
As if the passenger numbers weren't impressive enough, Sea-Tac is also seeing increases in freight numbers as well, climbing 7.2 percent last month and jumping 6.1 percent year to date in 2015.
