United Airlines announced this week the company would begin equipping its Customer Service Representatives with Apple iPhone 6 Plus phones in order to help agents meet the needs of passengers quicker than ever.
United made the announcement Wednesday, saying the company will begin distributing the Apple iPhones to its more than 6,000 United States hub-based customer service representatives next year.
The airline hopes that the iPhones help employees assist customers who have checked into their flights with several pre-departure actions. This would include printing boarding passes and baggage tags anywhere in the airport.
The customer service representatives with the new phone will be able to provide assistance to other employees and passengers with complex needs. In the future, the Apple devices will also feature custom tools to make each employee a walking, talking airport kiosk.
This announcement is the latest in a long line of technological upgrades the airline has supported over the years, including distributing iPhones to flight attendants last June and iPads to pilots in August 2011.
United Airlines Senior Vice President Of Airport Operations Jon Roitman released a statement, saying, "Our employees told us they needed better tools to serve our customers, especially during severe weather and busier travel times. We have seen great success with the custom-made tools on the iPhone 6 Plus and believe expanding the use of a smart phone device with other applications is a great investment in our employees."
