No one's sure if it's a publicity stunt for the airline, or if the airline was simply lending one of its planes to a modeling agency for a photo shoot, or what.
But days after the photos were first leaked, VietJet Air is still under fire and being derided on social media for pandering to the age-old fantasy of the sexy flight attendant gone bad.
The airline insists the photos of women - dressed as flight attendants but wearing only red high heel shoes, red thigh-high stockings, and red and yellow bikinis inside the cabin - were not part of an official ad campaign for the carrier.
Yet.
VietJet's development director Vu Pham Nguyen Tung told the local Thanh Nien News that "We have yet to decide if we will use these photos or not," but admitted the airline had hired Vietnamese modeling agency Venus to shoot the photos.
One of the models, Ngoc Trinh, a popular lingerie model in Vietnam, posted some of the photos to her Facebook page several days ago but has since deleted the post, in which she also wrote, "Just finished shooting promo photos for VietJet Air for 12 hours nonstop from 9:00 am to 9:00 pm."
For some, the stunt became comic fodder.
Others, like flight attendant and author Heather Poole, were not pleased.
Worse, this isn't even the first time VietJet has done something like this. Previously the airline announced new service between cities by parading beauty contestant winners through the aisles.
