Holiday travel planning may not seem like a priority in the heat of summer, but TravelPulse founder and CEO Mark Murphy asserts this is the best time to finalize itineraries and get to booking.
In his weekly appearance on CBS News Wednesday, Murphy revealed that ordering tickets between Aug. 10-16 will likely result in the can’t-miss deals for travelers.
“If you want to relieve anxiety and make sure you get all the seats where you are sitting together for the holiday trip, book now,” said Murphy.
Murphy talked about a recent study that suggests passengers booking next week can save 18.7 percent on Christmas flights, 14.4 percent on New Year’s Eve flights and 5.4 percent on Thanksgiving flights. If you can’t book next week, other good times to book holiday flights include early September and Dec. 14-20 where consumers can get great last-minute deals.
“You could save up to 18 percent, depending on the routes,” added Murphy. “You’ll find on some routes, there are big savings. On others, not so much. That’s the issue with the airline business; there is no set formula for when, where and how to buy. Always just try to get the best value, and try to use a travel agent if it’s a complicated itinerary to book your airfare.”
In addition to saving money on holiday flights, Murphy also talked about the negative medical impact on your body and mind from traveling too much, the new sensation amongst younger travels with taking selfies and the wave of airports adding more localized cuisine and shopping to their facilities.
