WATCH: Mark Murphy Shares Best Tips When Your Flight Is Canceled

Snowy weather conditions have caused mass delays and cancellations for flights this winter, but TravelPulse founder and CEO Mark Murphy has you covered with a few essential tips on how to handle a potential airline delay.

In an interview with Neil Cavuto of Fox Business News, Murphy gives some much-needed advice for one of the most difficult situations in travel, uncertainty surrounding a flight.

The first item on Murphy’s checklist is checking your carrier’s policies on weather delays and cancellations. Finding out beforehand whether you will be refunded your money or rebooked on another flight will help travelers control the situation.

Another factor touched upon is the chain-reaction impact weather delays can have on an airline. Planes are typically scheduled to make several different flights in a day, and one delay can cause drastic changes in arrival and departure times.

Preemptive measures are still the best way to deal with delays and cancellations. When a traveler knows that a winter storm is in the forecast, getting out as early as possible is the best-case scenario.

Calling the airlines ahead of time to make sure there is availability is a must, but moving to an earlier flight will help avoid delays and cancellations all together. Take Murphy’s advice, and you’ll be able to handle the next potential flight delay or cancellation like a pro.
