WATCH: Southwest Airlines Finally Caves on Bag Fees

Southwest Airlines, the last major U.S. carrier not to charge passengers for checked bags, has finally caved.

The Dallas-based carrier announced on a video this morning its new Bag Fee Bandwagon Bonanza. The airline is charging passengers a fee for checking bags that are red, yellow, green, chartreuse or plaid, you must pay a fee of $401.15 on weekdays — except for Wednesdays when the fee doubles for teenagers and anybody who is 6 feet or taller.

Also, any bag with two wheels must be pre-approved by the airline one year and six days in advance of your actual flight date.

This seems outrageous.

Until you check the fee price — $401.15 — and today’s date — 4/1/15.

Happy April Fool’s Day.
