Big news for City of Brotherly Love travelers today, as Frontier Airlines amps up its service to Philadelphia.
The airline, which infamously once said in its ads that "flying out of Philly is silly," began service to Orlando, Miami and Tampa on Dec. 20, and to Cancun, Mexico, on Dec. 21. Last week, it announced a start date for new routes it had promised in its fall 2014 announcement.
Service to Chicago O'Hare, Charlotte and Atlanta will begin March 13. To celebrate the service, the airline ran $19 and $49 one-way fare specials last week (sorry folks, it was a one-day special for the already-sold out $19 fares).
TravelPulse founder and CEO Mark Murphy joined the FOX29 Philadelphia crew Monday morning to explain the impact of the airline's arrival. While those doorbuster-type deals may be gone, Murphy outlined how the low-cost airlines' mere presence in Philly will not only mean lower airfares from Frontier, but will force the bigger airlines to lower their fares as well.
Murphy also outlined the typical fares found on Frontier, including a bundled classic fare that includes many perks in one low fare.
And Murphy and the anchors discussed the city's high ranking on the New York Times' "Top 52 Places To Travel in 2015" list.
