Business travel can be particularly taxing on the fragile psyche when you consider the multitude of things that could go wrong.
And with that we have already raised your anxiety a couple of ticks.
Not to worry, because you are in a great company, because there are myriad corporate travelers out there who have to deal with the same frustrating items that pepper your business endeavor.
Booking.com offered a spotlight on the most egregious experiences that lead to duress for you road warriors out there.
Via a press release, the travel website unveiled the top causes for business travel anxiety, and the winner was missing a flight or train, which worried 32 percent of respondents.
And this was an extensive study, to be sure, as 4,500 business travelers from eight countries were queried on what makes them break out into a sweat when working abroad.
The top causes followed as such: language barriers (26 percent), potential for lost luggage (22 percent), unfamiliarity with new surroundings (21 percent) and finding their bearings in a new city (18 percent).
Thankfully, technology can lend a hand in some of these scenarios. We live in an age wherein apps are abundant that will familiarize you with a new city and its various public transportation, hotel and restaurant options.
That doesn’t mean you will stop worrying about these matters.
One of the most telling aspects of the survey is that nearly all respondents (93 percent) admitted to feeling anxious in at least one moment during their work trip.
And you only need have traveled on business once to understand the anxiety that comes with getting through TSA only to feel that sudden inexplicable sensation that you might just miss your plane. It’s that same feeling that makes you check and double check your alarm the night before.
Sure, we all feel this when we are on vacation, but worse case scenario you are still on holiday and can make other arrangements.
But consider that you are out on a trip that might determine your company’s well-being and absolutely need to make that meeting.
Well, the flop sweat is understandable in that scenario.
The survey is meant to highlight the website’s venture Booking.com for Business. And the travel website hopes that might be one solution.
Director of Product Development Ripsy Bandourian explains the hardships and how this innovation might help: “That's why we launched Booking.com for Business, with seamless accommodation booking access and valuable, must-have information for business travelers such as where best to find meeting facilities, free Wi-Fi and top-class breakfasts. These capabilities can help alleviate some of the stresses and strains so the trip can be one to remember, for the right reasons.”
Aside from this particular feature, there is a wealth of innovations across the industry that might alleviate some burden.
There are translation apps that help you get around foreign cities, such as Google Translate, which also offer sign translation.
Myriad applications also help locate Wi-Fi and offer updated maps that you can access offline.
Still, there is something to be said for getting a good night’s sleep and accepting that sometimes things are just out of your control.
