Orlando is going green in a big way as officials from the city, Enterprise, Chevrolet and other companies officially added 14 more electric vehicles to the area.

During the announcement ceremony, business and community leaders including Mayor Buddy Dyer and Drive Electric Orlando teamed up with Enterprise Rent-A-Car and Chevrolet to unveil the 14 new Chevrolet Volt plug-in cars that will be added to Enterprise’s local rental facilities.

Officials from Visit Orlando, Walt Disney Word, Universal Orlando Resort, the Orange County Convention Center, Westgate Resorts, the Hyatt Regency Hotel, Orlando, Inc. and the Aloft Hotel participated in the ceremony and were treated to extended test drives in the new electric rental cars.

Mayor Dyer released a statement about the addition of more electric vehicles to the Orlando community, saying, “Here in Orlando, we pride ourselves on being a sustainable, cutting-edge community and a place where leadership and partnership come together to do amazing things and tackle big challenges. That’s one of the reasons why we’re proud to show national leadership when it comes to sustainability, and that includes advancing the adoption of electric cars both here in our backyard and across America.”

To rent one of the new Chevy Volts, tourists must visit one of Enterprise’s Orlando locations. While the number of electric vehicles is limited, the company plans on adding even more to its fleet in the future.

The Volt runs on both electricity and gasoline, and has a total combined range of 380 miles. With more than 300 places to recharge the electric engine across the region, travelers won’t have to use much gasoline when traveling to all of the resorts and attractions in the area.
