Love is a powerful force, and a survey from Enterprise Rent-A-Car reveals people will drive the farthest to be with the people they love more than any other reason.
According to the leading rental car company, the “How Far Would You Drive?” survey was a collection of opinions from 1,015 adults about how far each would drive for a wide variety of reasons. The overwhelming response is that people will drive the farthest for love and family.
The survey revealed that 42 percent of respondents said they would travel the farthest to see a loved one. On the other hand, only 25 percent said they would travel the farthest to attend a wedding.
Enterprise Rent-A-Car brand marketing vice president, Lee Broughton, released a statement about the survey’s results:
“We hear anecdotal stories from our customers all the time about what inspires them to embark on road trips and it’s a thrill to see how we play a role in our customers’ lives. While love and family may spark individuals to drive the farthest, interests such as sports, music and food still earn significant car time.”
While drivers are willing to go the distance (literally) for the people they love, there is no shortage of dedication when it comes to sports. The survey claims college football fans are willing to drive more than 230 miles to see their favorite team. By comparison, hockey fans are willing to drive 185 miles, professional football fans are willing to drive 165 miles, baseball fans are willing to drive 164 miles, and professional basketball fans are willing to drive 112 miles.
It’s not just love and sports, though, as people are also willing to drive an average of 150 miles to see their favorite band or artist live in concert. Add in the fact that one-third of all respondents to the survey said they would drive two hours to eat at their favorite restaurant, and people seem to be willing to drive the farthest for their love of almost anything.
